After driving nearly 1,100 miles over 2 days and picking up my friend Sharpy who would join for a week, it was time for the second game of the trip in Indianapolis. Lucas Oil Stadium was rated the best venue in sports by my friend at Stadium Journey for the past two seasons, so I was really looking forward to it.
Before the game, we received a personal tour from Larry Hall, the Colts VP of Ticket Operations/Guest Services. He took us around the stadium and included a visit to the Colts Marketing Suite, where the Super Bowl Trophy was being held. Interestingly, it was still in its protective container and the people in the suite had no idea it was in their midst. When Larry broke it out, they were extremely surprised. Larry was kind enough to allow for a photo op too. - looking smooth in the Stadium Journey polo.
Before that, we had spent some time walking around the stadium, taking a few shots and enjoying a $3 Bud Light at Touchdown Town, an outdoor area at the north end of the stadium with a live band and other activities. Below are 3 other shots of the venue.
There are a number of cool elements inside the stadium. The giant Colt next to the ticket office is the most notable.
Remember that Super Bowl Trophy? There's the banner below.
We had seats on the south side of the stadium, facing the north end which has the window facing the Indianapolis skyline. Due to the humidity, the roof and windows were closed though.
This is the view from our seats in the first row of Section 527.
A panorama shot from the north side of the stadium.
Before the game, the Colts bring out a giant American flag for the national anthem. It is quite impressive and covers the entire field.
The game was quite good, with Terrelle Pryor starting for the Raiders and running for over 100 yards and passing for one TD.
But Andrew Luck was a bit better and passed for 2 TDs, including the pass about to come below, which Reggie Wayne caught for the first score of the game.
The final was 21-17 Colts. The difference in the game was that Oakland could not convert on 3rd down and had 4th and 1 on three separate occasions. On all three, they chose to kick, either punting twice or kicking a FG (below). With Pryor running wild, they should have gambled at least once and given the offense some confidence.
The next game on the trip is Philadelphia at Washington Monday night. Check back Tuesday for some photos of that.
Best,
Sean
