The NHL is holding 6 games in Europe this October. Carolina takes on Minnesota in Helsinki on October 7th and 8th, Stockholm hosts Columbus and San Jose on the 8th and 9th, while Boston and Phoenix face off in Prague on the 9th and 10th. These cities are all close enough so that you could fly to see a game in each arena. But it's a long way to go to see teams that you might not particularly interested in.
However, the Euro 2012 tournament is holding qualifying games the same week. Match days are October 8th, 9th and 12th. A quick glance shows that the Czech Republic are home to Scotland on October 8th, one day before the NHL games in Prague. Then Ireland are in neighbouring Slovakia on the 12th. The venues for these matches have yet to be determined, but it shouldn't be a problem getting around by train.
You could even visit Helsinki before that to catch the opening game of that Hurricanes and Wild series. It would be a pretty interesting road trip to start the season. I'd love to make it myself but I'll be saving up for another hockey trip in early January. More on that in the near future.
Best,
Sean
